HERITAGE 2023 VOLLEYBALL

VARSITY COACH - PAIGE JOHNSTON AKA COACH PAIGE

This is my third consecutive season coaching for Heritage volleyball. Before I started coaching,

I played volleyball starting in 6th grade all the way up through high school. I played for my middle school in 8th grade then my high school 9th through 12th grade. I first tried out in 6th grade, but

didn’t make the school team, so I joined club volleyball and played every year all the way to

age 18. So far, I have enjoyed coaching immensely. I hope to create a constructive and positive environment for the girls to learn and thoroughly enjoy the sport that has been such a huge

part of my life.  I’m excited to share everything I’ve learned over the years with the girls,

and I can’t wait to see where this season takes us!

JV COACH - DAWN WEBSTER - AKA COACH DAWN

Most students know me as Mrs. Webster, the Instructional Associate here at Heritage. I’ve worked for Heritage for 19 years and have 2 daughters that attended Heritage since kindergarten.  Both my daughters played volleyball for Heritage, so during those years I developed a love for the game and a passion for coaching.  My oldest daughter, Haley, continued playing volleyball, playing

for Serrano and throughout 4 years of college. I hope to give the JV girls a fun, informative, and competitive season, where they can develop their skills and make lasting friendships!

2023 Heritage Volleyball Tryouts Information

  • Volleyball is a very fun sport where the girls can have a chance to learn essential life skills and play on a school sports team. They do not have to have any prior experience playing volleyball in order to try out. We can teach them from square one!
  • One of the most important things is for the girls to have their athletic clearances (physicals) turned into the ASB office before tryouts which are on September 11th and 12th from 6pm-8pm at Pinon Mesa Middle School. If these are not turned in before then, your student will not be permitted to try out.
  • The students must attend both days of tryouts in order to be considered for the teams. We will have a varsity and a junior varsity team. 8th graders are only permitted to try out for the varsity team. 6th and 7th graders will be allowed to try out for either. Please be at least 15 minutes early on both days. That way we can get everyone checked in before tryouts start at 6pm. Coaches will be at the gym as early as 5:30pm to get things set up, so feel free to show up as early as then. You’ll have to enter Pinon Mesa from the bus ramp gate on the East side of the school facing Sheep Creek road. The gym directly beyond the first set of buildings to the left as you walk in.
  • The girls must attend wearing comfortable athletic clothing and closed toed shoes that are fit to exercise in. Knee pads will be required if the student makes it onto the team, but will not be required for tryouts. We recommend athletic leggings or athletic shorts for trying out. Baggy pants can be too hot or get in the way. Refrain from wearing jeans. For shirts, wear something that is easy to move in. Long sleeves may be too hot, but if you have something breathable and want to protect your arms it’s not a bad idea. Also make sure you do not wear clothes that you care about and don’t want to ruin.
  • If your student is feeling unsure, it doesn’t hurt to try out! We encourage as many girls as possible to attend. We’re looking for at least 20-24 students to build our teams.
  • Practices will start on Monday, September 11. We will have practices four days a week from 6pm-8pm, Monday-Thursday, at Pinon Mesa Middle School. Games will start at the end of October. From there we’ll have two games a week until playoffs and finals in the beginning of December. Games usually start at 4-4:30pm and last up to two hours. Our home games will be hosted at Pinon Mesa Middle School. There will be away games where players will need to be checked out of school. We do not have buses so transportation will need to be the responsibility of the players and parents.
